Commissioner of Operation Division

OPERATIONS DIVISION
Objective
To facilitate provision of fire and rescue services.

Functions
The Division will perform the following functions:-
(i) To provide rescue services to the public in liaison with various fire and rescue services including private sector;
(ii) To conduct firefighting and rescue operations;
(iii) Supervise, instruct and monitor all fire and rescue services activities of all fire brigades; and
(iv) To develop standards for rescue and firefighting operations.
This Division will be led by a Commissioner of Fire and Rescue and will comprise (3) Sections as follows:-
(i) Rescue Services Section;
(ii) Firefighting Operations Sections; and
(iii) Standards and Control Section.

Rescue Services Section
This Section will perform the following activities:
(i) Provide advice on prevention and participate in minimizing death rates, injuries to the people and damage to properties arising from fire, floods, earthquakes, road traffic accidents and other disasters.
This Section will be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Fire and Rescue.

Standards and Control Section
This Section will perform the following activities:
(i) Develop and control standards for fire and rescue activities done by various operators;
(ii) Conduct tests and experiments regarding fire services;
(iii) Give guidance and assistance in the re-enforcement of fire equipment facilities;
(iv) Prepare standards of equipments and facilities necessary for provision of fire and rescue services by various persons;
(v) Grade cities, municipalities, townships and villages into various fire and rescue services levels;
(vi) Monitor standards of equipment, protective clothing, uniforms, fire fighting vehicles and gears; and
(vii) Design equipment and provide specifications.
This Section will be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Fire and Rescue.

Firefighting Operations Section
This Section will perform the following activities:
(i) Extinguish fire during fire emergencies;
(ii) Conduct preliminary fire investigations for purposes of obtaining information related to the causes of fire and loss inflicted by fire;
(iii) Supervise and monitor urban fire brigades’ activities or operations;
(iv) Control brigades’ operations, equipment and facilities check the bridges performance and capability; and
(v) Analyze the fire incidents reports in a view of rectifying problems for training purposes.
This Section will be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Fire and Rescue
